Winter on the farm is slower on the surface, but just as full beneath it. The fields are resting under snow, the berry rows are tucked in, and the flower beds are waiting patiently for warmer days. This is the season where our work shifts indoors, catching up on long-overdue paperwork, refueling our bodies and inspiring our hearts.
Much of winter is spent planning. We look back at what grew well, what customers loved, and what we want to improve in the year ahead. Seeds and plants are ordered, planting schedules meticulously planned and ideas take shape for another season of strawberries, flowers, pumpkins and meaningful moments on the farm.
The first trays of thousands of seeds are started and sprouting under lights. Each little plant reminds us that spring isn’t that far away. The warm days last week were a fun preview. I even got a shovel in the dirt to get a soil test sent in! It felt good to play in the dirt for a quick moment.
Winter is also a time to refuel our bodies and hearts. Farming is a joyful, demanding rhythm, and these colder months give us space to rest, reflect, and gather energy for what’s ahead. Quiet moments give us space to dream and remind us why we do this work in the first place.
As winter slowly loosens its grip, we’re already dreaming of ripe strawberries, armfuls of flowers, and welcoming you back to the farm. Thank you for being part of our journey. We can’t wait to grow another beautiful season together.
